The Shifts

I think there are shifts occurring all the time, in our rationale, in our state of being, in our beliefs, in what and who we hold on to. This comes through experience and how we make up our days here. I thought I needed so much more to get by, but I was wrong.

I will take a nonjudgmental ear any day, someone who knows my heart but also knows I’m human. Who will hear me, then simply say “I’m here” and “I’ll stand by you.” The weight of that, it’s my rock.

I’ll also take someone true to their word any day, who says they will be there and then shows up. They show up out of love, they show up because I’m worth it, and the miles between us don’t matter.

The family you keep may be different from the one you thought you would have when you were growing up. It might be lacking in white picked fences, perfectly manicured lawns and bay windows. It might be messy, but still beautifully so.

I have seen the hearts of many and the spirits that forever go on. There is so much richness beyond the clutter that sometimes clouds our vision. There is a beauty in being raw.

For those who see, take and appreciate me as I am, thank you.
